The Cordillera Huayhuash is a compact mountain range—spanning just 30 km (18.6 mi) in length and 15 km (9.3 mi) in width—yet it boasts an impressive density of turquoise lakes, cascading glaciers, and fluted peaks soaring above 6,000 meters.
Among these giants is Yerupajá (6,634 m), the second-highest tropical mountain in the world, and the epic Siula Grande (6,356 m), famously documented by Joe Simpson and Simon Yates in the award-winning book and film, Touching the Void.
Located just south of the famous Cordillera Blanca, this remote and rugged mountain range remains an untouched paradise. It features a dense collection of virgin, trout-filled lakes in brilliant shades of emerald and blue, alongside glacial peaks that rival the Himalayas and idyllic alpine meadows perfect for camping under the stars.
The complete trekking Cordillera Huayhuash circuit is widely regarded as one of the most spectacular alpine routes in the world. There is no place quite like it, and walking its rugged trails is the only true way to experience its magnitude.
Visitors who take on this challenge are rewarded with a world of profound solitude, humbling natural beauty, and fascinating native wildlife. As you hike, keep an eye out for unique Huayhuash animal species freely roaming their natural habitat, including the majestic Andean condor, wild vicuñas, and viscachas.
