The best time to trek in the cordillera blanca is during the dry season, from April to September. Known as the “ Andean summer”, the weather is usually stable with plenty of sunshine and clear skies, although rain and snow can come at any time of year in the mountains.
The entire Cordillera Blanca has a semi-dry and semi-cold climate, with an average maximum temperature of 23.9° C (75.0° F) and a minimum of 1.1° C (33.98° F). The climate is very unpredictable, even in the dry season it can rain. During the days it can vary from hot to very frigid temperatures, included rain and strong winds or snow over 4800 meters above sea level. It usually starts getting cloudy more often in early September. October and November are the months when after 2-3pm you can count on afternoon showers.
Warm clothing, waterproof clothing, trekking shoes, sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, snack, water, 30 liters backpack and trek poles.
We will go to the east of the city of Huaraz.
The route will take us to some towns before reaching Pitec, where the trek begins.
There we will be able to see the Andes’ own vegetation and views of the Huamashraju, Cashan and Churup mountains, besides the Cordillera Negra.
Along the route, we will see the mountain melting that form rivers and waterfalls.
After 3 hours of trek, we will arrive at the Churup Lagoon, at 4,450 m high.
In that place we will make a 1 hour pause to eat and take photographs.
Then, we will return to the bus to go back to Huaraz.
